DAREarts empowers Canadian children who are challenged by life circumstances to unlock their potential using the arts. Armed with confidence, courage and leadership skills, they ignite change in their lives and in their communities.
DAREarts was founded in Canada by Marilyn Field, Past President of Esprit Orchestra, recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, and a teacher with the Toronto District School Board. As a teacher, she discovered that any student's character could be developed through the application of the arts in daily life. darearts' method challenges students to attain high standards, knowledge and self-discipline. The Vision of darearts is to inspire all young Canadians with a lifelong motivation for creative thinking and excellence in their own lives and their communities through the arts.

Professionals and parents are calling for a renewed focus on discipline and learning. At a time when juvenile social programs have increased, school budget cuts have resulted in decreased arts education. darearts helps fill this gap through an innovative five year course of study to complement the school system. darearts brings arts to students, ages nine through fourteen, who would not otherwise have the experiences, and whose socioeconomic or environmental conditions are such that their potential is in jeopardy. Many children in today's environments face a high degree of negative influences in their decision-making and, thus, benefit from positive influences like darearts.
