Showcase Days Wrap up our 2011 Spring Program

Working in a variety of arts disciplines, DAREarts students grew to be strong critical thinkers, eager to unleash their potential into the world. The spring program wrapped up with a special showcase day for each grade to express what they learned through storytelling, dance, drama, music and artwork. Captured on film, it leaves each child with a memento of their experiences to share with family and peers.

Grade 8s showed confidence and individuality by showing how one can remove society’s imposed masks through drama, B-boy/girl dance pieces and a song that they wrote and rapped. The grade 7s pushed ahead to recreate dance, drama, and music pieces with a Glee-inspired introduction. Younger grades demonstrated teamwork, cooperation, discipline and risk taking through their performances. Visit our Daily Blog for more.

All-The-Arts is a 5-year program of out-of-school workshops for children aged 9 – 14, who are challenged by life circumstances. Hands-on participation in all the arts - Visual Art, Architecture, Music, Dance, Drama, Literature, Fashion/Design and Culinary Arts, and interaction with arts professionals, leads the children to discover their abilities while building self-esteem and motivation. The children share their experiences with their peers, with support from their teachers, and lead others in shaping a vibrant community.

DAREarts helped me become a leader because when I presented what I learned to my class, I was teaching them and leading the class.

The arts empower children by providing opportunities for positive risk-taking and creative self-expression. By building self-esteem and leadership abilities, the arts can help our kids make wise choices in friends and lifestyle.

“I hope for many years after me that DAREarts will still be continuing its programming. DAREarts has inspired me in ways that my regular school couldn’t.” – Rebecca S., 13'
