DAREarts collaborates with a variety of organizations to provide education through the arts. Research points to a richer, more successful educational experience for children exposed to music.
The purpose of DARE2sing is to empower participating children by exposing them first hand to the beauty and power of vocal music and the positive activity of singing together.
Currently DARE2sing is a partnership project with the City of Toronto Cultural Services, Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and Rexdale Outreach Choir (ROC). This initiative delivers a weekly music program for students in grades 5 - 8 attending five elementary schools in northwest Toronto. DARE2sing brings together students from the community, master musicians, and teen singers as youth mentors. A ‘glee club’ environment is created for the children to actively experience the creative power of singing that will nurture their own creative energies, self-awareness and empowerment. The program uses the model of the children’s choir program developed by DAREarts, that includes songs from various genres and cultures as well as creating their own songs, culminating in a final public presentation to give the children a sense of accomplishment.
In previous years, the DAREarts Choir has partnered with other groups, including the Queensmen of Toronto Male Chorus and the 'We Are One' program. The choir has performed at numerous political and corporate events and, internationally, at the 100th Anniversary of the Nobel Peace Prize.
