2010 SHAW FESTIVAL TRIP:
The Doctor's Dilemma
Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Thanks to the continued generosity of Lombard and Coach Canada, DAREarts delegates again trekked to Niagara-On-The-Lake to take in a performance of The Doctor's Dilemma, Bernard Shaw’s comic exploration of the medical establishment and the value of art.

DareArts was honoured to aaccept the invitation to open Youth Day 2008, July 26th, at Tornto CityHall with the choir singing 'O Canada' with singer Carlos Morgan. Then later in the day, two DARE2B teams from north-west schools staged a mock B-Boy battle, lead by their teachers, Jon Reid and Lee Pham from Back To The Underground, our education partners in this pilot program. DareArts was made so proud by these awesome young people!

  • Sun Life Financial donated 256 tickets to The National Ballet’s Cinderella on May 27, 2008. The response for these tickets was wonderful, and everyone had an amazing time!

  • Dear Delegates & Grads,

The GOGS (Gathering of the Grads) proudly presented their Film Premiere after creating a ‘Film in 5 Weeks’, which was received with rave reviews by everyone who attended!

  • Once again this year, our sponsor, Sun Life Financial, generously donated 150 tickets to Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Nutcracker’ at the new Four Seasons Performing Arts Centre! Tickets went fast, as our delegates jumped at the chance to enjoy this seasonal extravaganza.

  • DAREarts Grads Explore the Shaw Festival

On September 27th, forty of our DAREarts Grads and their teachers trekked, by Canada Coach (our travel sponsor) down to Niagara-on-the-Lake to see Arms and the Man by George Bernard Shaw at the Shaw Festival. In the morning, the lucky grads were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the production, followed by workshops led by Shaw staff and our teacher Jennifer Gillespie, with David Hannan and Anne Lyons, where the group explored the play’s themes of valour, integrity and identity. Then they enjoyed a complimentary lunch on the terrace, before an hour of “free time” to meander through the pretty town. Of course, the highlight of the trip was the play itself, proving that education can be fun!

Special thanks to our generous sponsor, Lombard Insurance for this special day.
