Over 2,000 Kids 'Dare to Draw Attention'
by creating original cards to help children in need |
|
Through their artwork, students in the Headwaters and other regions are ‘Drawing Attention’ to serious issues affecting other children. Previously known as ‘Children For Peace’, the focus of this project has shifted from Afghanistan to our own remote northern First Nations communities that suffer the effects of substandard conditions and pervasive substance abuse. Please encourage the leadership of these young people while you support programs in isolated communities with your purchase of darearts cards this Holiday Season!

darearts First Roots in Webequie
Month-long program promotes life skills through arts |
| This year’s focus on fashion, along with music, photography and visual art, evolved from the youth’s desire to translate their creative images to fabric and learn how to market their skills. Elders shared traditional techniques and hosted a celebratory feast following a community showcase to recognize the dedication of the youth and teaching team.
Support from the Ontario Government, Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council, CIBC Children’s Foundation and Noront Resources, has also enabled the program to return to Marten Falls (Ogoki Post), Ontario, and launch in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia.
