Volunteers make valuable contributions towards the success of DAREarts. They help to strengthen communities and ignite change by identifying and responding to community needs. Volunteer involvement enhances the effectiveness of our arts based activities and increases civic responsibility, participation and interaction between DAREarts and its communities. They are a very important part of the DAREarts team and play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission. Without the valuable skills and leadership of our volunteers, we would not be able to reach and inspire as many children as we do.

DAREarts has over 100 dedicated volunteers that support the program in a variety of ways, ranging from photographers and musicians, to committee members, administrative support, and event management staff. Many of our volunteers are graduates of the DAREarts program.

Dedicated volunteers are the lifeblood of DAREarts; it is due to their unwavering support that DAREarts is able to reach out to as many children in need as possible.

Volunteer support is appreciated in the following areas:

  • General Tasks
  • Program Assistance
  • Special Events
  • Committee work

Volunteer Opportunities for ALL AGES

Professionals and Retired Adults
DAREarts values the knowledge, skills and experience that professionals and retired adults bring to our team. In sharing their skills and experience with youth, they meet new people, gain a greater sense of connection with their community, and increase their overall satisfaction in life.

Students and Youth
All Ontario high school students must fulfill 40 hours of community service as a graduation requirement. DAREarts can provide high school students with many rewarding opportunities to develop their leadership skills while earning community service hours. We especially encourage DAREarts graduates to stay connected with DAREarts and share their valuable skills and insight.

The Benefits of Volunteering:

  • Support DAREarts and make a difference in the lives of children
  • Put your skills and experience to work
  • Gain new skills and experience
  • Make new friends, network and develop professional relationships

I love to meet and chat with students who have been through the DAREarts program, hear their personal stories, and see how confident they have become in their capabilities and their future.

- Janette Henderson

Jan's relationship with DAREarts began with the recommendation of Robert Bissett, retired Senior Vice-President Commercial Banking of Gold Supporter BMO Bank of Montreal and former DAREarts Board of Directors member.

Jan joined our Leadership Awards Committee in 2011, sat as Chair of the committee in 2012, and shared the position as Co-Chair for two years. Recently Jan has moved up in her career, the busy time necessitating her to step down from the committee at the beginning of 2014. Our Leadership Awards event has flourished with Jan's aid and involvement, and DAREarts sincerely hopes that she will join us again in the future!

Q: Why is involvement in DAREarts important to you?

A: I commend Marilyn and the DAREarts family in their dedication and accomplishments with helping youth find their way. There is no more worthy cause than helping children. They are our future!
